Week 4 – Chindogu

Naming

We had some help from ChatGPT to brainstorm for some nice names.

Design Brief

We updated at finished our design brief.

LED-alert

We managed to get the functionality of the LED-alert working.

APP

We managed to create a UI in the app.
It will show if the BalanceBot is not levelled, so the kitchen can react with neccessary clean up meassures. It will also show on/off status of the BalanceBot.

Fritzing

The diagram for the prototype is as follows.

Rounding it up.

What We Intended and did:
Our aim was to create an IoT waiter’s tray that could eliminate tray-edges automatically and mechanically. To achieve this, we brainstormed and created a design brief. We then constructed a prototype that included coding with Arduino IDE and NodeRED.

What Succeeded:
Our prototype, BalanceBot, was a minimum viable product with usable functionality. It could indicate when the tray was not level with an LED warning light, and the app could indicate whether the tray was on or off level and alert the kitchen of any tray faults.

Problems that needs to be solved:
Although our prototype had the intended functionality, some features did not work as intended. We had planned to alert if the tray was dropped, but sickness prevented the message from arriving before the code was written. Additionally, the motor-controlled pointer designed to indicate the direction the tray needed to be adjusted did not work. Finally, the 9V battery was insufficient to power all the modules simultaneously, leading to faulty functionality.

Conclusion:
Overall, we consider BalanceBot a viable chindogu product that meets its intended characteristics. However, further development is necessary to improve its functionality and make it work as intended.

Possibilities for the Next Versions:
To improve BalanceBot, we suggest creating statistics on the waiter’s precision in carrying trays, incorporating sound alerts, and implementing zeroing. Additionally, further coding, prototyping, and testing are necessary to improve the motor-controlled pointer and battery functionality. By addressing these issues, we believe that BalanceBot has the potential to become a more advanced and efficient chindogu-IoT waiter’s tray.
